The Birth of a Pearl

Very few can turn a disturbance or an irritant into a spectacular object of desire. More often than not, we succumb to the disturbance. Negativity comes flooding in, filling our lives, erasing all that is good and joyous.

The birth of a pearl is miraculous. It is an exemplary event where an oyster converts a disturbance or an irritant into an exotic, beautiful pearl. Most gemstones and even diamonds need to be cut and polished to bring out their true beauty. A pearl is born with all its glory!

Pearls are a creation of live oysters below the surface of the sea. Each pearl is born with a complete shimmering iridescence, lustre and soft inner glow.

A pearl is born when a foreign object or an irritant lodges itself in an oyster’s soft inner membranes. The oyster is unable to expel this irritant, and at the same time is unable to tolerate it. To ease its own disturbance, the oyster begins to secrete a smooth, hard crystalline substance around the irritant in order to protect itself.

This substance, called nacre, is layered on the irritant, layer by layer. Over time, the irritant is completely encased by this nacre, glowing and beautiful! And the miracle called the pearl is born!

So the next time you get an irritant or a disturbance in life, take a moment and smile! Look for the pearl that you can create in your own life!

Stay tuned for more.
